Big Chill Kitchen Hood Buying Guide: Which Hood is Right for Your Kitchen?
There are many beneficial reasons to install a hood in your kitchen. An installed hood is important to air quality as it effectively filters out smoke, grease, and carbon monoxide fumes. The hood also provides temperature control, keeping the person at the stove comfortable. As with most home appliances, there are choices to be made when considering a kitchen hood. What hood is right for my stove, and should the hood vent air outside, or should the air be recirculated?
External venting hoods either connect to an outside source of air or filter the air. When in use, venting hoods pull smoke, cooking fumes, and pollution molecules, either directly outside or through a filtration system. Recirculating hoods, work much the same except for one key difference. The air, instead of being forced outside or through a filter, is recirculated back into the kitchen.
Looking to purchase a hood for your kitchen? Big Chill hoods are available in three sizes to fit our collection of ranges and stoves.

Kitchen Hood Venting: Should it Vent Outside or Recirculate Air?
Big Chill Hood Range
Recirculating Hoods
Recirculating hoods are essentially vent-less hoods. They recycle the air instead of directing it elsewhere, usually done with a fan that takes in air, circulates it through a charcoal filter, and then blows the air back into the home. Although effective, these hoods typically have a lower price range as they are sometimes less effective as external hoods in eliminating moisture and kitchen smells.
External Vented Hoods
Vented hoods are often considered the better choice for those who like to get rid of excessive heat and moisture in the kitchen. Those who live in very cold or warm climates know how important the temperature inside the house can be. Smaller appliances like a kitchen hood can impact the indoor temperature, and can impact other areas of the indoor atmosphere. Because external vents feed directly outside, they are better at keeping houses cool during the warmer months after cooking. An external hood is not always an option for those who are replacing a recirculating hood, because it has to have a vent that releases air outside. This option can have a heavier price tag but is recommended for those who frequently produce high volumes of smoke and heat in the kitchen.
